Leupold MK4 rings & base
My gunsmith put Leupold MK 4 aluminum bases on a Leupold steel one piece based on his experience with the State Police sniper and the Fort Drum Army sniper rifles he has worked with. Based on the recoil of a 300 Wby and the weight of the Bushnell 6500 series 4.5-30 X 50mm scope he also drilled and retaped the base so he could use the next size larger screws. This made for a very strong set up.
This rifle has been on several deer hunts and in NM for Elk where I saw others with scope issues that were related with their set up not handling the stress of the field or other stress related problems.
I have this set up so I can just replace the scope with a spare in case of catastrophic failure. I also have the torque wrench that goes with the rings for a quick change in the field.
I have had this rifle bounce around the country without having any problems concerning the accuracy of the rifle. You can also remove the scope when traveling on airlines with confidence that it will re-zero.
